Herron Returns to RedHawks

05/15/2015 9:35 AM -

FARGO, N.D. – As the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks near the end of the first week of training camp, a familiar face has joined the pitching staff.

The RedHawks have signed RHP Tyler Herron, who pitched for Fargo-Moorhead in 2012 to a contract. Herron joined the club on Thursday night and will make his 2015 spring debut in today’s 11:00 a.m. exhibition game against the Sioux Falls Canaries in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Herron, 28, was the ace of the 2012 RedHawks and helped the team to the first of back-to-back American Association North Division titles. He was 12-3 with a 3.29 ERA in 23 games (17 starts). Herron pitched 123.0 innings and allowed 53 runs (45 earned) on 113 hits while recording 105 strikeouts.

Following his season with the RedHawks, Herron had his contract purchased by the Washington Nationals. He has spent the past two seasons in the Nats chain, mostly at the Double-A level with Harrisburg of the Eastern League. In 2014, Herron was 3-2 with a 2.73 ERA and six saves in 48 games with the Senators, and made a pair of appearances with the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League (Triple-A).

In other recent transactions, the RedHawks have signed RHP Paul Raglione and C Michael Leach. Raglione joins the team after last playing professional baseball in 2008. He spent four seasons in the Kansas City Royals chain before leaving the game. Leach played for the NDSU Bison from 2012-2014 and helped backstop the team to a Summit League title and NCAA Tournament berth as a senior. The RedHawks have also released INF/OF Mike Garcia.
