GARY, Ind. —The Gary SouthShore RailCats (25-20) had their three-game winning streak snapped on Independence Day after getting shutout by Fargo-Moorhead, 7-0. The RailCats managed just three hits and had a baserunner reach third base just once on the night.

Fargo-Moorhead (23-22) took the opening lead for the second straight game with a run in the top of the second. K.D. Kang recorded the RedHawks first hit of the night with a one-out opposite field single to left before Trevor Adams advanced him to second with a single to center. Chris Grayson followed with an RBI single to left-center, scoring Kang from second.

Grayson doubled the RedHawks’ lead to 2-0 with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth. Kang doubled with one out before Adams followed with his second single of the game, giving Fargo-Moorhead runners on the corners. Grayson then grounded into a 4-6 fielder’s choice, bringing in Kang from third.

The RedHawks increased their lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Yhoxian Medina, Devan Ahart and Derrick Fox started the inning with three consecutive singles to load the bases for Keury De La Cruz. De La Cruz made it 3-0 in favor of Fargo-Moorhead after drawing a five-pitch walk. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Adams hit a sky high popup up the first baseline which looked to be the final out of the inning, however, Frank Martinez couldn’t make the play, allowing Ahart to score.

In the sixth inning, Fargo-Moorhead hit a pair of home runs to further their lead. Grayson led off the inning with a solo home run to right for his third and final RBI. Charlie Valerio followed with a double and later scored on Ahart’s two-run home run, extending the RedHawks’ lead to 7-0.

The RailCats’ Andy DeJesus was the only player to reach base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk.

Braulio-Torres Perez (4-2) gave up seven run (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks in his second straight loss.

Fargo-Moorhead’s Zach Prendergast (1-0) tossed 7.2 shutout innings in his first pro win. Prendergast gave up only three hits and three walks and struck out five in his second pro start.
