F-M WINS SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE SERIES

07/11/2019 3:28 PM -

FARGO, N.D. — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored 10 runs in the fifth inning on Thursday afternoon on their way to an 11-4 victory over the Sioux City Explorers and their seventh consecutive series win.

RHP Michael Tamburino got the start for Fargo-Moorhead hoping for his fourth win of the season. The X’s sent Tyler Jordan, who was also looking for win No. 4, to the mound.

Both starting pitchers looked dominant early — allowing no hits through the first two innings of the game — before Drew Stankiewicz put Sioux City on the board with a solo home run, his first of the season, to lead off the third inning.

Leo Pina lead off the RedHawks’ half of the third with a single, extending his hitting streak to fifteen games. The X’s were able to turn a double play later in the inning to keep the RedHawks off the board and keep their 1-0 lead. Neither team left a runner on base through the game’s first four innings.

Tamburino settled in and managed to retire the next eight batters after giving up the home run to Stankiewicz, but Stankiewicz took Tamburino deep for the second time in as many at bats, giving Sioux City a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning.

The RedHawks responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with ten runs on ten hits to take control of the game. The barrage of runs began with a Chris Jacobs solo homer off the scoreboard in left field to cut the deficit in half. After Jordan issued his first walk of the game to T.J. Bennett, Leo Pina hit a two-run bomb down the left field line off the glove of Sebastian Zawada to give the RedHawks a 3-2 lead. F-M tacked on seven more runs to extend the lead to 10-2.

Sioux City was able to score two more runs later in the game, and Fargo-Moorhead scored one of their own in the sixth to make the final score 11-4. Michael Tamburino threw for eight innings, allowed four earned runs, struck out nine, and did not issue a walk.

Fargo-Moorhead opens up a two-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow night, Friday, July 12. First pitch for the Friday opener is scheduled for 7:02 p.m.
