All-Star Slugger Jim Fasano Signs With RedHawks

02/01/2011 11:52 AM -
After three seasons of trying to get him out, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will now get to see DH/1B Jim Fasano on their side in 2011. The RedHawks have signed Fasano, who spent the past three seasons with the Kansas City T-Bones, to an American Association contract.

Fasano, 27, batted .319 with 15 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 76 RBI and 69 runs scored in 98 games for Kansas City in 2010. He was selected to the Northern League team for the Northern League/Golden Baseball League All-Star Game and helped guide the T-Bones reach the Northern League Finals, where they fell to the RedHawks. Fasano finished fifth in the Northern League in both RBI and walks (54).

In three seasons with the T-Bones, Fasano batted .292 with 68 doubles, two triples, 52 home runs, 228 RBI and 179 runs scored in 186 games. He was named the top designated hitter in the Northern League in 2008 and was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2008 Northern League Finals, which Kansas City won over the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

Fasano was began his professional career in 2004 after being selected by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round of the 2004 draft out of the University of Richmond (VA). He reached the Double-A level with the Rangers in 2006 and 2007. In his seven-year career, Fasano has batted .283 with 158 doubles, eight triples, 93 home runs, 460 RBI and 366 runs scored in 650 games.

“Jim has proven to be one of the most dangerous hitters we’ve faced over the past several years,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “He’s a perfect fit for our ballpark and will look pretty good in the middle of our line-up with who we’ve got coming back.”
