02/09/2011 12:41 PM -
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed veteran CF Nic Jackson to a contact, the American Association club announced today. Jackson will be back in Fargo for his third season with the RedHawks in 2011.

Jackson, 31, batted .305 with 30 doubles, 14 home runs, 71 RBI and 75 runs scored in 99 games for the RedHawks in 2010. He tied for the Northern League lead in doubles, was third in at-bats (400) and tied for fourth in runs scored and games played while leading Fargo-Moorhead to their second consecutive Northern League Championship.

Jackson posted a .485 slugging percentage and stole 19 bases in 22 attempts in 2010. He appeared in 97 games in the outfield and led all Northern League outfielders in total chances (238) and committed just one error for a .996 fielding percentage.

Jackson joined the RedHawks in 2009 and was named the league MVP after batting .310 with 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 97 RBI and 76 runs scored in 95 games. He led the Northern League in RBI and games played, was second in at bats (384), third in doubles, extra-base hits (43) and total bases (196), fourth in hits (119) and runs scored and fifth in stolen bases (26) on his way to earning Player of the Year honors.

In his ten-year career, Jackson has batted .292 with 197 doubles, 36 triples, 97 home runs, 505 RBI and 525 runs scored in 819 games. Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2000 draft, Jackson reached the Triple-A level in 2003 and 2004 and has also played in the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies organizations, as well as in the Atlantic League.

“Nic was a premier player in the Northern League, and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do in the American Association as we chase a third-straight title,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic.
