RedHawks Drop Series Finale 12-6

05/30/2012 10:12 PM -

Despite homeruns in the seventh and eighth innings for the RedHawks, Wichita’s nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings gave them plenty of breathing room to defeat Fargo-Moorhead, 12-6, in front of a crowd of 3,077 at Newman Outdoor Field.

RedHawks starter Jake Laber kept the RedHawks in the game through three innings with the score 1-1 going into the fourth. However, the Wingnuts capitalized in the fourth with three runs on hits by Mitch Einertson, C.J. Ziegler, and David Peralta.

With the score 4-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, RedHawks manager Doug Simunic was ejected by home plate umpire Chris Bakke.

The Wingnuts extended the lead to 10-1 with six runs in the fifth, highlighted by three Wingnut singles and two errors by the RedHawks defense.

Aharon Eggleston would hit the first of a pair of homeruns for the RedHawks off of Wichita starter Josh Lowey on the night in the seventh. Ryan Delgado would hit a two-run homerun in the eighth that scored Marcos Rodriquez after a walk to cut the deficit to 12-6.

The RedHawks would not be able to muster up anymore offense after Wingnuts relievers Jared Simon and Edgar Martinez came in to finish the last 1 1/3 innings to help Wichita complete a three-game road sweep of Fargo-Moorhead.

Wichita (10-3) extended their winning streak to eight on the season after starting 2-3. They are on top of the Central division and have the best record in the American Assocation. Starter Josh Lowey picked up his second win of the season after pitching 7 2/3 innings and giving up six earned runs on nine hits. Peralta led the team with 3 RBIs batting 3-for-4. Einertson, Ziegler, and Salomon Manriquez had two hits apiece.

Fargo-Moorhead (5-8) dropped their fourth consecutive game. RedHawks starter Jake Laber picked up his first loss of the season after giving up 10 runs (7 earned), on eight hits and seven walks. The RedHawks had five players with hits. RedHawks designated hitter Ryan Delgado lead the team at the plate going 3-for-4 with a homerun and a double with two RBIs. Aahron Eggleston and Zach Penprase each had two hits while Enrique Cruz and Todd Jennings contributed with one.

The RedHawks have an off-day Thursday before traveling to Sioux City, Iowa to play a three-game series from June 1-June 3.
