Little Falls, NJ – A three-run home run off the bat Bryan Sabatella lifted the Jackals to a 7-6 victory on Sunday afternoon over the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Yogi Berra Stadium, as New Jersey avoided the sweep at the hands of Fargo-Moorhead.

The Redhawks jumped to an early lead once again, as first baseman Keith Brachold blasted a solo homerun to right field in the top of the second inning.

It was a rough fourth inning for Jackals starter Craig Bennigson.
Brachold started up the rally, hitting a one out double to left field. Tim
Alberts then drove Brachold in with a RBI double.

Ronnie Bourquin followed by adding a two-run homerun to extend the Fargo-Moorhead lead to four.

The Jackals would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to a Jeremy Barnes RBI double, scoring Jose Cuevas on the play. Barnes later scored on a RBI groundout by Nick Giarraputo.

The Jackals were able to push across another run in the fifth inning, cutting the Fargo-Moorhead lead to 4-3. Danny Rams lined a double to right field to start the inning; Chris Curran reached on an infield single, scoring Rams on a bad throw to first base.

Fargo-Moorhead would quickly strike back.

C.J. Retherford led off the top of the sixth inning with a single to right field, while Keith Brachold followed by picking up his third hit of the game.

Tim Alberts advanced the runners on his fielders’ choice groundout to second base, and Ronnie Bourquin drove in Retherford on a sacrifice fly to center field, extending the lead to 5-3.

The back and forth battle continued, as the Jackals were able to tack on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chris Duffy singled, and was followed by a Nick Giarraputo walk. Danny Rams came up with two outs and drove an RBI single to left field, scoring Duffy.

Gaetano Giunta left the game in the seventh inning, after he was hit on his throwing hand trying to field a groundball. Rob Benedict made his Jackals debut, replacing Giunta. Benedict signed with the Jackals Sunday morning before the game started.

Craig Bennigson pitched into the seventh inning, allowing 10 hits and five runs for the Jackals. He was removed from the game after allowing a leadoff walk to Buddy Sosnoskie.

Chad Rose came in relief and got out of trouble, getting Nic Jackson to ground into a double play with runners on first and third to end the threat. Rose also battled out of trouble in the eighth inning.

Fargo-Moorhead starter Jake Laber was removed from the game in the bottom of the eighth inning after allowing a leadoff double to Jeremy Barnes. Laber picked up a no decision, pitching seven innings, allowing nine hits and five runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

The Jackals took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Bryan Sabatella blasted a three-run home run off the scoreboard in left field off of Nathan Kilcrease.
