RedHawks Hit No. 1,000
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks achieved their 1,000th victory in franchise history in walk-off fashion against St. Paul Thursday. Trailing 3-2 in the ninth, the RedHawks scored three in the ninth -- including a two-run walk-off home run by Buddy Sosnoskie to pick up the historic mark. The only other clubs with 1,000 wins in independent baseball are the Somerset Patriots, Bridgeport Bluefish and Winnipeg Goldeyes.
A Comeback Completed
With the victory last night, the RedHawks broke a trend that had been common this season. It took 64 games for the RedHawks to win a game by coming back from a deficit in the eighth or ninth innings. The ‘Hawks had been 0-21 when trailing after seven and 0-18 when trailing after eight. The RedHawks and Canaries were the only teams in the league that had not won a game after trailing in the eighth inning.
Alberts Getting it Done
Tim Alberts has been swinging a hot bat for the RedHawks recently. In the last 10 games, Alberts is hitting .436 (17-for-39) with a home run, four RBIs and eight runs scored. He played a major role in the RedHawks’ 1,000 win as well, picking up a team-high three hits and serving as the game-winning run.
Caldera Looks to Continue Winning Ways
Alex Caldera’s last loss was on June 6 in Lincoln. Caldera has made eight starts since and won five of them, while picking up three no-decisions. Although he has given up three earned runs or more in his last three starts, Caldera continues to keep the ‘Hawks in games winning all three of those starts. His eight wins on the year is tied for second with RedHawks reliever Joe Harris in the league.
