For the second game in a row, the RedHawks got a quality start from their starting pitcher, and for the second game in a row the team got shut out by the Joplin Blasters, this time in extra innings. A crowd of 3,669 witnessed a ten inning pitching duel that resulted in a 3-0 Blaster win on Wednesday night. The win gives the Blasters a three-game sweep in their first road trip as members of the American Association.
Tyler Herron was on the hill for Fargo-Moorhead, and he was zoned in to say the least. In the third and fourth frames, Herron faced runners on the corners, but he managed to get out of both jams. Herron's line for the night was good, 7.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 6 SO, 118 P (74 S), but he received no run support. Dating back to game one of the series, the RedHawks have gone 22 consecutive innings without scoring a run. It was also the second game in a row the team managed four hits.
Joplin starter Nester Molina also pitched well for the Blasters. He scattered four hits in seven innings pitched while he struck out six. Molina left in the seventh in a scoreless affair, earning the no-decision for the contest.
On the RedHawks struggles at the plate thus far, Simunic said, “We're struggling man. We've got to just try to either change some of it or we've got to create some offense. We've got to get going.”
Ty Kelley took the loss in relief for Fargo-Moorhead, while Kristhiam Linares earned the win for Joplin in one inning of relief work. Winston Abreu also picked up his third save of the season.
The RedHawks drop to 0-7 on the season while Joplin improves to 4-2 with their three-game sweep. Fargo-Moorhead will take Thursday off before traveling to Sioux Falls for a four-game series starting on Friday. The team will return to Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday, June 7th to start a six-game home stand with reigning American Assocation champions Wichita and the Laredo Lemurs.
