Seven Runs In The First Three Innings Propel 'Hawks

Playing their first home game in almost two weeks, Fargo-Moorhead did not disappoint the fans at Newman Outdoor Field with a 7-2 victory over Wichita on Monday night.

Kes Carter took the second pitch he saw deep into center for a leadoff homer to give the home team a 1-0 lead after the first inning. In the second F-M piled on even more when Dustin Geiger, a former member of the Wingnuts, blasted a two-run shot to give them a 3-0 lead. Two more runs came across with Ryan Pineda driving in Brian Humphries, and Charlie Valerio followed in as well to put the score at 5-0 after two.

The lead was stretched once again in the third inning. Geiger continued his solid play with a double to bring Josh Mazzola home. K.D. Kang then scored his second run of the night when Brian Humphries hit a sacrifice fly. The RedHawks' offense was quiet for the rest of the night, just managing one more hit, but with a 7-0 lead after three it didn't need to provide much more.

Tyler Alexander, already the American Association leader in strikeouts coming into tonight, put a whopping 13 K's on the night for a career high. The southpaw went eight shutout innings and yielded just five hits and one walk. In the sixth inning he struck out all three batters he faced on just 14 total pitches. The 'Nuts did manage to get on the board in the ninth with Brennen Salgado's two-RBI double, but that clearly wasn't enough to extend the game.

Alexander picks up his ninth win of the year to just three losses. Garrett Gould (0-1) was the losing pitcher. Game two of the three game series will be Tuesday, 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
