RedHawks Drop 5th Straight, Lose to Wichita 12-1

The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 12-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.

Josh Horn and Brent Clevlen each homered for a third consecutive night, while Ryan Hinson kept the RedHawks' offense at bay with seven three-hit, shutout innings.

Wichita scored twice in the bottom of the first for a second straight night to take an early lead.  Horn singled through the right side with one out to start the rally and extend his hitting streak to 11 games in a row.  Horn took second on Clevlen's flyball to right field and then scored when Juan Richardson lined a double into the right field corner.  Jorge Delgado made it 2-0 with an RBI single to center that scored Richardson from second.

Hinson walked one and struck out three during his seven scoreless innings.  Hinson faced multiple baserunners just once and never allowed a runner past second.

Delgado tacked on Wichita's third run in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout to short that plated Horn who had led off the frame with a walk.

Wichita broke the game open with five in the bottom of the fourth.  Peter Barrows and Edwin Bellorin opened the inning with back-to-back singles and each advanced one base on Tyler Robbins' sacrifice bunt to third.  Mike Conroy walked to load the bases, setting up a two-run single down the left field line from Horn that made it 5-0.  Conroy took third on a flyout to right from Clevlen, and scored when RedHawks' starter Jake Laber threw a wild pitch.  Richardson and Delgado drew back-to-back walks to re-load the bases.  Josh Workman followed with a two-run double down the right field line that opened an 8-0 lead.

The Wingnuts increased their lead again in the sixth.  Horn and Clevlen started the inning with back-to-back home runs, with Horn's going to left-center and Clevlen's hitting the batter's eye in straightaway center field.  Two batters later, Delgado doubled off the fence in left-center and eventually scored on a wild pitch.  Bellorin drove in the Wingnuts' final run of the night with an RBI groundout to short.

Seven of the Wingnuts' starters had at least one hit.  Horn scored four runs, reached base five times, and collected his third consecutive three-hit game.

Laber took the loss for Fargo, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in four innings.  Laber walked five and struck out three.

The series concludes on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. with Chad Sherman facing right-hander Josh Smith.
