Fish Evade Sweep with 8-1 Win Over F-MWINNIPEG, MB – After winning the first two games of the series, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks could not complete the sweep and dropped the finale 8-1 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes before a crowd of 6,878 fans at Shaw Park. The team who had scored first won the first two games of the series. The first two nights, that was the RedHawks. However, on Sunday afternoon it was the Goldeyes. With Taylor Stanton on the hill, Winnipeg got to the hard-throwing right-hander in the second inning. Luis Alen started it off with a single to center followed by a Tillman Pugh walk. Ryan Babineau then stepped to the plate and laced a double to right plating two making it 2-0 Goldeyes. Winnipeg would tack on two more in the third inning. Adam Heisler led off the frame with a single that was to hard to handle for second baseman Ryan Pineda. Two batters later it was Casey Haerther who stepped to the dish. Haerther homered in last night’s game down the line in left, and took the 2-0 offering from Taylor Stanton straight down the line again making it 4-0 Goldeyes. Chad Mozingo would respond in top half of the fourth inning. Facing Kyle Anderson, Mozingo belted his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, making it 4-1. Other than the mistake pitch to Mozingo, it was the Kyle Anderson show at Shaw Park on Sunday afternoon. The Goldeyes’ left-handed starter faced just 28 batters through eight innings, and retired the side 1-2-3 in the fifth and seventh frames. Anderson kept RedHawks hitters off balance and on the end of the bats with breaking balls and off-speed pitches. Winnipeg would score three runs in the sixth. Pugh singled and would advance to third on a Ryan Babineau single giving the Fish runners on the corners with nobody out. James Boddicker singled scoring Pugh, and two batters later Casio Grider sent a base hit up the middle plating two giving the Goldeyes a 7-1 lead. Facing reliever Benji Waite, the Goldeyes would add one more run in the seventh. Josh Mazzola walked on four pitches and would be driven in later on an RBI single from Pugh to left making it 8-1. Taylor Stanton (3-4) takes the loss after going 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs on ten hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts. Kyle Anderson (4-5) went eight innings for Winnipeg, allowing just the one run on the Mozingo homer while scattering six hits with no walks and six strikeouts while earning the win. Drew Muren kept his hitting streak going extending it to ten games, as he went 1-for-4, with his lone hit coming in the first inning. Zach Penprase and Chad Mozingo were the only RedHawks who had multi-hit games, as both went 2-for-4 from the plate. With the loss, Fargo-Moorhead loses its 50th game of the season and is now 29-50. However, the team did win its third straight series of the season. Winnipeg evaded the sweep and improves to 36-43 with the win and snaps a three game skid. Fargo-Moorhead will return to town tomorrow night to begin a seven game home stand, starting with the Lincoln Saltdogs. Brandon Mann (4-8, 4.49 ERA) is set to take the hill in game one at 7:02 p.m. All games can be heard on 740 AM The Fan with Scott Miller and Jack Michaels.
