The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks added a pair of players as the club signed OF Keury De La Cruz and RHP Tyler Stirewalt to contacts.
De La Cruz, 24, spent last season with the Portland (ME) Seadogs, the Boston Red Sox affiliate in the Eastern League (AA). In 112 games, he batted .240 with 22 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 47 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
De La Cruz signed with the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in 2009 out of the Dominican Republic and spent seven years in the Boston organization. He was in spring training with the Minnesota Twins this year but was released. In seven professional seasons, he has batted .270 with 150 doubles, 34 triples, 58 home runs, 358 RBIs and 303 runs scored in 626 games.
Stirewalt, 25, joins the RedHawks after spending three years in the Minnesota Twins organization. Last season, he was 0-3 with a 5.87 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Elizabethton (TN) Twins of the Appalachian League (R) after missing the entire 2014 season due to injury. He pitched 23.0 innings and allowed 20 runs (15 earned) on 26 hits and struck out 19 batters.
Stirewalt was selected by the Twins in the 21st round of the 2013 draft out of Fresno State University. In 2013, he was 1-1 with a 0.57 ERA and one save in 12 games. Stirewalt pitched 15.2 innings that year and allowed one earned run on eight hits with 20 strikeouts.
