The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Tim Lavigne to a contract and released RHP Elvys Quezada, the Northern League team announced today. Lavigne will be in uniform tonight as the RedHawks continue their four-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers in Schaumburg, IL.
Lavigne, 31, joins the RedHawks after pitching this summer for the Monclova Acereros (Steelmakers) of the Mexican League (AAA). He was 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA and 22 saves in 50 appearances for Monclova. Lavigne pitched 62.2 innings and allowed 20 runs on 62 hits. He struck out 41, walked 29 and held opponents to a .261 batting average against him.
Lavigne was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 32nd round of the 2000 draft and began his professional career that summer. In ten professional seasons, Lavigne is 29-37 with a 3.73 ERA and 95 saves in 410 games (12 starts). He has pitched 627.1 innings and struck out 426 batters while holding opponents to a .260 batting average. Lavigne has pitched at the Double-A or Triple-A level since 2002.
Quezada was 4-2 with a 3.79 ERA and two saves in 25 games for the RedHawks this year.
