RedHawks Sign Hoorelbeke Brothers; Coffman Traded![]() The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are bringing back one of the team’s most prolific sluggers, and his brother is coming along for good measure.
The RedHawks have signed 1B Jesse Hoorelbeke and RHP Casey Hoorelbeke to contracts for the 2010 season. In addition, the club has traded LHP Broc Coffman to the Edmonton Capitals of the Golden Baseball League for a player to be named later, the Northern League club announced today.
Jesse Hoorelbeke, 32, batted .293 with 27 doubles, one triple, 23 home runs, 88 RBIs and 74 runs scored in 120 games in 2009 with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League. He was third in the league in home runs, fourth in slugging percentage (.517) and extra base hits (51) and fifth in RBI and total bases (226).
Jesse last played for the RedHawks in 2006 after signing with the club as a free agent. He batted .332 with 24 doubles, one triple, 21 home runs, 65 RBIs and 55 runs scored in 74 games before his contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs on August 12, 2006. The Cubs assigned Jesse to Triple-A Iowa, where he pounded out five more home runs in 14 games to end the season.
Despite missing the final 19 games of the 2006 RedHawks season, Jesse still led the Northern League in home runs and slugging percentage. In perhaps the greatest individual offensive game in RedHawks history, Jesse drilled four home runs and drove in eight runs for Fargo-Moorhead on June 18, 2006 against the Edmonton Cracker-Cats.
Over his eight-year professional career, Jesse has batted .282 with 161 doubles, four triples, 179 home runs, 600 RBIs and 498 runs scored in 824 games. Hoorelbeke has averaged over 22 home runs per season in his professional career, which started in 2002 when he was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Casey Hoorelbeke, 30, also spent the 2009 season with Bridgeport. He was 3-3 with a 4.66 ERA and one save in 43 games. Casey pitched 56.0 innings and allowed 35 hits (29 earned) on 61 hits, struck out 37 batters and walked 29.
Casey was also signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent out of Lewis & Clark State College in Idaho in 2004. He advanced quickly through the Dodgers chain and spent the 2008 season with the Las Vegas 51’s of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). After pitching at all three levels in the New York Mets organization in 2008, he signed with the Bluefish for 2009. In his six-year professional career, Casey is 25-21 with a 3.85 ERA and 17 saves in 257 games (18 starts).
Coffman, 25, has spent the past two seasons with the RedHawks. Last year, he was 9-6 with a 5.16 ERA in 17 starts. In 2008, Coffman was 10-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 19 starts. The Longview, Wash., native began his professional career in 2005 in the Texas Rangers organization.
