The MVP is coming back to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
The RedHawks have re-signed 2009 Northern League Player of the Year CF Nic Jackson to a contract for the 2010 season, the club announced today.
Jackson, 30, batted .310 with 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 97 RBIs and 76 runs scored in 95 games in 2009, his first season with the RedHawks. He led the Northern League in RBIs and games played (95-tie), was second in at bats (384), third in doubles, extra-base hits (43) and total bases (196), fourth in hits (119) and runs scored and fifth in stolen bases (26) on his way to earning Player of the Year honors.
Following the season, Jackson was selected to the Northern League All-Star Team and to the Baseball America All-Independent Leagues First Team in addition to being voted MVP. He also batted .500 (7-for-14) with a double, home run, six runs scored and three stolen bases in the Northern League Finals against Gary as the RedHawks claimed their fourth championship in franchise history.
Jackson was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2000 draft out of the University of Richmond (Va.). He advanced to Triple-A with the Cubs, and also spent time in the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets organizations before posting an All-Star season for the Camden (N.J.) Riversharks of the Atlantic League in 2008.
