The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed OF Cory Patton and released OF Kevin Clark, OF Jeff Corsaletti, RHP Nick Fellman and INF Chris Tonte, the Northern League club announced today. Patton had been released by the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Saturday.
Patton, 27, spent last season with Winnipeg where he batted .239 with 17 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 57 RBIs and 67 runs scored in 88 games. He posted a .362 on-base percentage and finished second in the Northern League with 57 walks.
Patton was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2005 draft out of Texas A&M University. In his five-year career, Patton has batted .266 with 137 doubles, 10 triples, 77 home runs, 330 RBIs and 335 runs scored in 469 games.
Clark, Corsaletti, Fellman and Tonte were all released as the RedHawks cut down their training camp roster and begin settling on a roster for Opening Day, which is Friday. The RedHawks will open defense of their Northern League title by hosting the Joliet JackHammers for a three-game series starting Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
