The Schaumburg Flyers edged out the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in extra innings 10-9 Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2,826 fans. The Flyers improve to 10-6 and the RedHawks fall to 8-9.
Flyers SS Travis Brown, 3B Vince Harrison and DH Felix Jose helped the Flyers score a run in each of the games first three innings. The Flyers scored four runs on five hits to make it 7-4 in the sixth. The RedHawks rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh and crept within one. Flyers LF Jeff Dunbar crushed a tie-breaking homerun over the left field scoreboard to give the Flyers an 8-7 lead.
RedHawks 3B Yurendell DeCaster went 3-for-6 with three homeruns and five RBI’s. DeCaster hit a two-run homerun in the home half of the first and two game-tying blasts in the eighth and tenth innings.
Flyers C Richard Mercado’s homer to left gave the Flyers the game-lasting 10-9 lead. The Flyers will go for the series sweep tomorrow night at Newman Outdoor Field. Game time is 7:02 p.m.
