RedHawks Adding Video Board to Newman Outdoor Field![]() When the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks open the home schedule of the 2012 season on May 25, there will be a new addition to Newman Outdoor Field.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are always looking to improve the fan experience and with that mission in mind, the club has purchased a new state of the art video board that will be installed at the ballpark this spring and be ready for the 2012 season.
“We couldn’t be more excited to give this video board to our fans,” said RedHawks Owner & President Bruce Thom. “We are entering our 17th season and we want to continue to make the stadium a fun, safe, family-friendly place to enjoy a ballgame. This upgrade will immediately enhance the overall game experience for our fans and sponsors.”
The RedHawks purchased the board from Daktronics, with the consulting assistance of Total Sports Entertainment. It includes a 15mm light emitting diode (LED) display, which is a member of the latest generation of Daktronics’ outdoor video display products, and an electronic scoreboard that will replace to current manual scoreboard.
State Bank & Trust is the primary sponsor of the scoreboard and will have a custom-built lighted display atop the new structure. Beverage Wholesalers, Inc. and Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, North Dakota State University, Pepsi and Sanford Health will be featured on the four 9’ X 9’ backlit signs located on the board.
The overall structure will measure 43’ X 23’, with the LED display measuring 26.4’ X 13.2’. The LED display that will be installed at Newman Outdoor Field is a member of the latest generation of Daktronics’ outdoor video display product. This model measures 264 lines of resolution tall x 528 columns of resolution wide on 15mm spacing. It’s capable of 281 trillion colors and can accept and display an HD feed.
The physical size comparison between the new LED video display and the existing incandescent message display is approximately 348 square feet vs. 112 square feet. Despite the size difference, the new board will use less power (18,000 watts power requirement) than the current model (36,000 watts
“This is an exciting time for RedHawks baseball,” said Thom. “The old scoreboard has served us well and tallied a lot of victories, but it’s outlived its useful lifespan. This new board positions the organization for future success while making the game experience more vibrant.”
