Simon Says Walk-Off, RedHawks Win 7-6![]() Randall Simon belted a two-run walk-off home run The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks finished the Gary SouthShore RailCats in dramatic fashion as 1B Randall Simon drilled a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 7-6 victory on Wednesday night before a sell-out crowd of 4,531 at Newman Outdoor Field
Simon hit a second inning single and scored the first run of the game on 2B Carlo Cota’s double to the left-center gap for an early 1-0 Fargo-Moorhead lead.
RailCats C Brett Wallace slapped a single through the left side to leadoff the RailCats third inning. With a crack of the bat, 3B Chris Carrara singled through the legs of RedHawks starter LHP Broc Coffman and LF Mike Massaro hit an RBI single to tie it at 1-1. With nobody out, Carrara and Massaro double stole second and third. With runners in scoring position, 2B Eric McNamee hit a seeing-eye single to score Carrara and make it 2-1 for the away team. SS Jay Pecci hit another RBI single to score Massaro and cap the RailCats three-run third inning.
The RedHawks crept within one run on RF Jeremiah Piepkorn’s solo shot to dead center in the home half of the fourth inning. RedHawks C Kole Zimmerman drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Wallace. LF Mike Coles doubled off the center-field wall to score Zimmerman from third and tie it at 3-3. With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, RedHawks 3B Yurendell DeCaster hit his league-leading 13th home run of the season and Piepkorn hit his second solo shot of the game to give the RedHawks a 5-3 lead.
With two outs and men at second and third, RailCats 1B Steve Haake hit a three-run bomb on a first-pitch fastball from RedHawks reliever Elvys Quezada to give the RailCats the game-lasting 6-5 lead.
The RedHawks go for the sweep of the RailCats tomorrow afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks will send RHP Garry Bakker to the mound and RHP Grant Johnson will counter for the RailCats. Game time is 12:30 p.m.
