A long night came to an end in Laredo when third baseman-turned-pitcher Garrett Rau lofted a game-winning sacrifice fly to give Laredo a 4-3, walk-off win over Fargo-Moorhead in 11 innings.
Rau had started the game at third base, but moved to the mound in the top of the 11th to get the Lemurs out of a tough situation. The RedHawks had the go-ahead run on third with one out, but Rau struck out C Todd Jennings and SS Zach Penprase to get out of the jam.
In the bottom half of the inning, Rau got the chance to win the game with his bat, coming up with the bases loaded and one out. His sacrifice fly scored 3B John Allen (who moved to third when Rau took the mound) to give the Lemurs a walk-off victory. Rau's clutch pitching and timely hitting not only gave Laredo a win, it earned him a win as the pitcher of record.
Rau's error in the eighth inning allowed the RedHawks to score the three runs that tied at three and led to the game going extra innings.
