Retherford Bringing Bat Back to RedHawks![]() A staple of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks line-up last year will be back this summer as INF C.J. Retherford has re-signed with the club.
Retherford, 28, batted .270 with 27 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 65 RBIs and 47 runs scored in 83 games for Fargo-Moorhead last season. He joined the RedHawks in early June after starting the year in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League (AA). Retherford hit .219 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 26 RBIs in 47 games for the Lookouts.
This off-season, Retherford played for the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Venezuelan Winter League. He batted .328 with 11 doubles, 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and 48 runs scored in 61 games for La Guaira.
2014 will be the third season Retherford has spent with the RedHawks, but the first time he will open the year with the club. He first signed with the RedHawks in 2011 and batted .339 with 24 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBIs in 56 games. Following the season, he had his contact purchased by the Dodgers.
Retherford was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Chicago White Sox in 2007 following the end of his college career at Arizona State University. He reached the Triple-A level with the White Sox in 2010. In his seven year career, Retherford has batted .278 with 220 doubles, 16 triples, 86 home runs and 477 RBIs in 791 games.
“C.J. loves to play baseball, and has been a major offensive force for us,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “He’s a highly-skilled hitter with a knack for driving in runs and he can play all around the infield. You can never have enough players like him.”
