Stellar Pitching and Kaskaddens 2 RBI Double Lead RedHawks to Victory![]()
A quality start by Jake Laber and a big two-run double by Anthony Kaskadden gave the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks a 5-3 victory on Tuesday night at the Newman Outdoor Field, where 2,977 fans saw the RedHawks move to 23-15 on the year.
Fargo-Moorhead was the first team to get on the scoreboard, courtesy of Brandon Newton, who singled home Nic Jackson, and the RedHawks took the 1-0 lead.
That lead was, however, erased in the top third when with two outs, Laber issued a walk to Evan Bigley. Three pitches later, Henry Wingley connected with Laber’s fastball for a double, plating Bigley to tie the game. The Saints added another run in the fourth inning as Angelo Songco hit a double past diving C.J. Retherford. With Songco on second, Joey Becker’s RBI double gave the Saints a 2-1 lead.
The ‘Hawks got louder in their at-bats in the bottom of the fifth inning. Newton led off with his second single on the evening and Anthony Kaskadden moved him over to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a fielder’s choice, Newton was able to score from third on a wild pitch by Nick Barnese to tie the score at 2-2.
The deadlock would not last long as the RedHawks struck again. This time, it was Tim Alberts starting the two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single. Newton then reached on error by the second baseman, and Kaskadden collected two RBIs with his double down the left field line, making the score 4-2. Zach Penprase’s single brought in Kaskadden to give the ‘Hawks 5-2 lead.
The Saint Paul Saints were only able to decrease the deficit to 5-3 in the top of the eighth inning. Willie Cabrera singled off of relieving Kevin Fuqua, Joey Becker’s single got him to third, and the RBI went to Dwight Childs after a sharp ground out to first baseman.
The score remained thanks to Nate Garcia picking up a save on the night, his 11th of the year. The win went to Jake Laber, who leads the Fargo-Moorhead’s pitching staff with a 6-1 record. Nick Barnese suffered the loss for the Saints, moving to 3-3.
