The biggest component of a four game losing streak for Fargo-Moorhead was the lack of runs, Thursday night against Lincoln two big innings were all they needed in a 6-3 win in the series finale at Newman Outdoor Field.
For all three games in the series the Saltdogs put the first run on the board. They did so in the first innings of games one and two, but this time that didn’t come until the third. Austin Darby scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Harris. The ‘Hawks provided an immediate answer in the form of a two run shot by Josh Mazzola, to grab a 2-1 lead.
The Saltdogs responded in the top of the fourth with Curt Smith leading off with a blast of his own, after having one in last night’s game as well. The home team then took the lead for good with a huge bottom of the fourth. Four runs in total were scored thanks to two walks and four hits. The RBIs were by Chad Mozingo, Keury De La Cruz, Mazzola, and K.D. Kang.
The road team cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth, but RedHawks starter Tyler Alexander was superb from there. He only allowed seven hits in 7.1 innings and struck out eight en route to his fourth win of the season, his record is now 4-1. Colton Reavis came in the ninth and delivered his second save of the year.
The RedHawks (14-12) will travel to Wichita on Friday for their next game at 7:05 p.m., that will be part of a three game series. Lincoln (16-11) will host Gary in a Central Division matchup at slated for 6:35 p.m.
