Pineda's Return Tops RedHawks Roster Moves![]() Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic has begun construction of the 2017 roster with a series of recent transactions. The RedHawks have agreed to terms with 2B Ryan Pineda; signed RHP Richie Tate, RHP Tyler Greene and RHP Dimitri Kourtis; acquired 1B Rene Leveret from the Lincoln Saltdogs for future considerations; and released RHP Roman Madrid, RHP Patrick Mincey and RHP Brett Zawacki.
Pineda, 27, is set for his fourth season with the RedHawks. In 2016, he batted .269 with 22 doubles, eight triples, eight home runs, 36 RBIs and 70 runs scored in 98 games. Pineda tied for the American Association lead with eight triples, and his run total was third on the RedHawks behind Keury De La Cruz (76) and Josh Mazzola (72).
Pineda first signed with the RedHawks in 2013 after spending three seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. He was traded to Grand Prairie AirHogs after 11 games and played the 2014 season in Winnipeg. Pineda was re-acquired by the RedHawks from the Sussex County Miners of the Can-Am League halfway through the 2015 season.
Tate, 24, joins the RedHawks after five seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization from 2010-2015. In 2015, he was 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA and four saves in 28 games with the Carolina Mudcats of the Carolina League (High-A). In 36.0 innings, he allowed 12 runs (10 earned) on 36 hits with 35 strikeouts. In his career, Tate is 12-9 with a 2.98 ERA and 14 saves in 111 relief appearances.
Greene, 22, played last season with the Gulf Coast League Braves, the rookie league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. He was 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA and a save in ten relief appearances. He struck out six batters and allowed three runs on eight hits in 10.2 innings pitched.
Kourtis, 24, will be making his professional debut with the RedHawks in 2017 after playing college baseball at Mercer University (GA) from 2012-2015. In four seasons with Mercer, Kourtis was 19-8 with a 2.82 ERA and 19 saves in 87 games (14 starts). He pitched 201.1 innings, allowed 184 hits and struck out 169 batters.
Leveret, 31, batted .306 with nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 41 RBIs and 36 runs scored in 82 games for the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2016. |
