The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed SS Zach Penprase to a contract for the 2012 season. Penprase is the ninth player signed for the 2012 season.
Penprase, 26, returns to the RedHawks for his fifth season with the club. In 2011, he batted .291 with 22 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 49 RBIs and 77 runs scored. Penprase stole 33 bases, which was tied for second in the American Association.
Penprase appeared in 99 games at shortstop for Fargo-Moorhead last season and posted a .953 fielding percentage. He finished second in shortstop double plays and third in shortstop assists and put outs.
Penprase first signed with the RedHawks in 2008. In four seasons with Fargo-Moorhead, he has hit .285 with 72 doubles, 11 triples, 18 home runs, 163 RBIs and 281 runs scored in 348 games. Penprase is also the RedHawks all-time stolen base leader with 142 stolen bases.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Fargo and helping get the team back to the top,” said Penprase. “Last season wasn’t much fun, so it’s nice to have a new season to start fresh and win some games”
“Zach is a premium player who plays a premium position,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “It was a priority to get him re-signed for this season and we are happy to have him back.”
