The El Paso Diablos used a three-run sixth inning to create the space they needed to best the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 4-2 Friday night. Jon Gaston hit home runs in his first two at bats, but counting for the only RedHawks runs of the game.
After taking the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, El Paso fell behind as the RedHawks put up one run in the second and the fourth innings. Trailing by one, the Diablos sparked a rally in the sixth. C Patrick Arlis tied up the score with a single that scored DH Palmer Karr, Jr. In the next at bat RF JJ Muse singled home 1B Javier Brito. LF Brian Joynt followed that with a double that scored Arlis. Muse was 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and 2B Maikol Gonzalez led the team in hits with three in four at bats. The RedHawks put two runners on base in the 9th inning, but were unable to get the big hit to tie.
RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez got the win by pitching six innings and giving up two runs, both earned, on five hits. Aaron Shafer took the loss for the RedHawks.
The series continues with game 3 Saturday night at 8:00 in El Paso.
