RedHawks Stymied By Goldeyes On Friday![]() Starting pitcher Ace Walker went 8 1/3 innings leading the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 5-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday, June 08, 2012 in front of a crowd of 3,443.
Walker had an early 2-0 lead to work with in the first, as Winnipeg scored two runs on a single up the middle by Jon Weber that brought in Price Kendall, and a 6-4-3 double play turned that would score Chris Roberson from third.
Walker cruised through the RedHawks order early, going 1-2-3 through his first 3 1/3 innings and not allowing a Fargo-Moorhead hit until the fifth inning with one out.
Marcos Rodriguez broke up the no-hitter in the fifth with a double down the right field line but would get left-on base after a Ryan Stovall strike out left runners on the corners.
Winnipeg picked up another three runs in the sixth off two hits by Josh Mazzola and Kyle and two Fargo-Moorhead errors.
The RedHawks didn’t give up easily in the ninth and attempted a comeback. Ryan Delgado hit his fifth homerun of the season with one out to cut the deficit to 5-1. Rodriguez and Jennings would follow with single and Stovall hit a line drive single that scored Rodriguez. However, Goldeyes reliever Nick Carr would settle down and get the final out off an Aahron Eggleston fly out.
Winnipeg (14-6) first baseman Jon Weber and designated hitter Kyle Day led the Goldeyes getting three hits apiece. Ace Walker improved his record to 3-0 on the season after giving up six hits and two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings of work. Nick Carr relieved Walker for the final 2/3 innings.
Fargo-Moorhead (9-12) starter Aaron Shafer gave up nine hits and four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. His record dropped to 1-2 this season. Daniel Morari pitched one inning giving up a run. Mike Zenko pitched 2/3 innings in his RedHawk debut only allowing a hit. Kyle Dahman pitched the final two innings for Fargo-Moorhead only allowing a hit while striking out one.
The RedHawks were led at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance from Rodriguez. Todd Jennings had two hits as the other RedHawk with a multi-hit game.
The RedHawks and Goldeyes continue a three-game series tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. The probable starter for the RedHawks tomorrow is Jake Laber and for the Goldeyes is Chris Salamida. |
