REDHAWKS SIGN ZACH WENTZ
Former Bison Joining Team Today In St. Paul
FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed 3B Zach Wentz to a contract. Wentz will be in uniform today when the RedHawks take on the St. Paul Saints at 1:00 p.m. at Midway Stadium in St. Paul.
Wentz, 22, completed his college career at North Dakota State University this spring, where he helped lead the Bison to within a win of berth in the NCAA Tournament and a school-record 40 wins. In 2012, he batted .317 with 13 doubles, five home runs, 41 RBIs and 31 runs scored in 60 games. On the mound, Wentz was 2-6 with a 5.50 ERA in 13 starts. He was named All-Summit League Second Team and a Capital One Academic All-American 1st Team following the season.
Wentz, a Bismarck, ND native and graduate of Bismarck Century High School, batted .334 with 58 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 133 RBIs and 139 runs scored in 208 career games at NDSU. As a pitcher, he was 13-16 with a 5.52 ERA in 44 games (36 starts). He is the Bison career leader in at bats (805), hits (269), doubles and games played (tied).
To make room for Wentz on the roster, the RedHawks have placed RHP Alex Rivers on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10.
