LINCOLN -- Alex Caldera threw eight masterful innings as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (12-17) blanked the Saltdogs (12-18) 5-0 to complete the series sweep in front of 2,951 fans at Haymarket Park Saturday night.
Caldera (4-1) pitched eight frames, allowing just five hits and a walk while striking out a season-high nine batters to earn the victory.
RedHawks opened the scoring in the top of the fifth on a Zach Penprase sacrifice fly and an unearned run on a throwing error to make it 2-0.
Fargo added another to lead off the sixth with a solo home run down the right field line by Sergio Pedroza, his first of the year. The Birds then tallied two more over the next two innings to take their 5-0 advantage.
Justin Edwards (2-2) pitched well in defeat, going six innings while allowing two earned and fanning a season-high eight.
The Saltdogs were swept in a series for the first time this season, and shutout for the fifth time while Fargo-Moorhead completes their first series sweep of 2012.
The RedHawks are off Sunday and start up a three game home stand with the Sioux City Explorers Monday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
