St. Paul scored six early runs powered behind four Saints home runs to win the series finale against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-4 at Newman Outdoor Field on July 1, 2012.
Ole Sheldon batted 2-for-5 with two home runs while Tanner Townsend and Jon Townsend batted 2-for-4 with a home run each to bolster the Saints’ three run second and third innings that gave them an early 7-2 lead.
Saints starter Robert Coe (4-3) retired 13 straight batters between the fifth and eighth innings to help secure the Saints victory. Coe pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts.
Fargo-Moorhead scored two runs in the second to cut the Saints lead to 3-2. A Jon Gaston single, Todd Jennings double, and Buddy Sosnoskie single kept the game close before St. Paul figured out RedHawks starter Jake Laber.
Laber (1-4) pitched 3+ innings in the loss giving up seven hits and seven earned runs. Kevin Fuqua pitched three innings of relief for Fargo-Moorhead giving up one earned.
Jennings and Gaston both had two hits apiece to lead Fargo-Moorhead (21-21) at the plate. Jose Hernandez was 3-for-5 with a run for St.Paul (19-21).
The RedHawks are now 9-13 at Newman Outdoor Field this season. Fargo-Moorhead travels to Winnipeg to play a four-game series against the Goldeyes from July 3 to July 6. They return home on July 7 to begin a four-game series with the Kansas City T-Bones on July 7.
