Timely Hitting and Retherfords HR Not Enough to Take Down Cats![]() Timely hitting by the RedHawks’ line-up was highlighted by Bourquin’s two one-RBI hits, and C.J. Retherford’s go-ahead home run in the seventh. However, that was not enough as the RailCats rallied for a run in the top 10th in front of a second straight sellout crowd of 4,658.
Both of the teams remained quiet through two completed innings. It was the home team, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, who put themselves on the scoreboard first. In the bottom of the third inning, Zach Penprase lead off with a single to right field, that skipped over the head of the second baseman. The very next batter, Ronnie Bourquin, roped a triple off the right field wall, which allowed Penprase to score easily. Nic Jackson would make the score 2-0 for the RedHawks, as he lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field, plating Bourquin.
Sawyer Carroll was the third run scoring for Fargo-Moorhead. With one out, he found a left field gap, and after an error on the pitcher, Carroll scored an unearned run to increase the lead to 3-0.
In the very next half inning, the RailCats scored their first and second run. Shawn O’Neill retired first two hitters, but would give up back-to-back hits to Logan Brumley and Cody Bishop. Walk to Danny Pulfer loaded the bases for Drew Martinez, who plated Brumley and Bishop with a well-placed groundball for a 2 RBI single. As top of the sixth inning rolled around, the Gary SouthShore RailCats added two more runs. Jose Garcia started off with a single, and Josh Romanski followed up with a double. An intentional walk to Drew Muren cost the RedHawks two runs, as pinch-hitting Wally Backman sent two home with his base hit up the middle.
The RedHawks were, however, quick to answer. Brandon Tripp got on second base with a double, and with two men out, Bourquin provided a clutch single for a 4-4 tie after six complete innings.
Turning the score back in Fargo-Moorhead’s favor was C.J. Retherford’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. On the first pitch he saw, Retherford got his tenth long ball of the season. However, that only lasted two innings, as solo home run by Drew Muren off of Nate Garcia tied the game at 5 in top of the ninth.
Tonight’s win went to James Parr (2-2), while the loss got charged to Nate Garcia (0-2).
The action picks up tomorrow, Saturday August 9 with the first pitch at 6pm. Purchase your tickets by calling (701) 235-6161 or by logging on to www.fmredhawks.com. |
