Aidan Byrne walk-off bunt seals RedHawks series win

FARGO — With a runner on third and one out in the 10th inning, Aidan Byrne laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Brian Fuentes, giving the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks their second walk-off win of the week and an 8-7 victory over the Sioux City Explorers (30-37) on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. 

With the win, the RedHawks (36-31) earned their ninth straight series victory at home. The RedHawks single season record for consecutive series won at home is 10 in 2003. 

Four RedHawks recorded multi-hit days. Dillon Thomas and Brian Fuentes both smacked solo home runs, while Jesus Lujano drove in two runs. 

Bryce Brassfield got the start for F-M, tossing four innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. Jon Beymer earned the win, pitching a scoreless top of the tenth inning. 

The RedHawks added runs in seventh different innings, including two in the first. 

Sioux City tied the game in the ninth inning when one run scored on an error, and another scored on a Jackson Van De Brake RBI single.  

In the bottom of the tenth with Brian Fuentes as the ghost runner on second, Michael Snyder laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Fuentes over to third. Two pitches later, Byrne laid down his winning sacrifice to win the game for Fargo-Moorhead. 

The RedHawks start up a six-game road trip on Tuesday when they head to Sioux Falls and Kansas City. They return to Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday, August 11 to take on the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch on August 11 is set for 7:02 p.m.
