Explorers complete wire-to-wire win over RedHawks

FARGO — The Sioux City Explorers (30-35) jumped out to an early lead and held on all the way through, defeating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-2 on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Kyle Crigger made his 13th start of the season for the RedHawks (34-31) on the mound, tossing five innings of work. He allowed four runs and struck out five batters.
Henson Leal and Kahler Key made their RedHawks debut in relief. Lead allowed one run on two hits, striking out two. Key posted two scoreless innings, striking out one batter.
Juan Fernandez and Dillon Thomas both collected an RBI at the plate.
Sioux City gathered a quick lead with an RBI single in the second off the bat of Jackson Van De Brake. They extended the lead with a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI double one pitch later.
The RedHawks got two back with an RBI single from Juan Fernandez and a Dillon Thomas sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.
The Explorers extended the lead an RBI double from Henry George in the seventh.
The RedHawks look to even the series against the Explorers tomorrow night with Game 2 of their three-game series. First pitch at Newman Outdoor Field is set for 6 p.m.
