Explorers outlast RedHawks in series finale

FARGO — The Sioux City Explorers (36-41) grabbed an early lead and held on, winning 5-2 over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to clinch a series victory on Thursday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. 

With the loss, the RedHawks (40-36) dropped their first series at home since May, ending a streak of nine consecutive home series victories. 

Kyle Crigger got the loss for Fargo-Moorhead. He tossed four innings and allowed one unearned run. Bryce Brassfield allowed three runs in relief, and Mason Pelio pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Anderson Bido got the win for Sioux City, while Trey Morrill pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to secure the save.

Jose Sermo led the way at the plate for the RedHawks, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Jesus Lujano collected two hits, while Aidan Byrne smacked a double and scored a run. 

The RedHawks continue their homestand on Friday as they welcome the Sioux Falls Canaries to town for the first time in 2026, kicking off a four-game series. First pitch at Newman Outdoor Field is set for 7:02 p.m. with fireworks to follow after the game.
