Hit parade clinches RedHawks series victory over Canaries

FARGO — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks smashed 19 hits on Thursday night to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries 13-8 in front of 2,850 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. 

Seven RedHawks had multiple hits, Jesus Lujano finished 5-for-6 with three RBI. 

Lujano smacked four singles and a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Tripp Clark had three hits and Tucupita Marcano drove in five runs and had a home run of his own.

Parker Harm made the start on the mound for F-M, tossing a career-long four innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out a career-high eight batters. 

Jon Beymer earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning and Tyler Jeans closed out the ninth with three straight strikeouts. 

The RedHawks broke a scoreless tie in the third with a five-run inning. The first two runs came around to score on an error, then Marcano ripped a three-run blast over the wall in right field.

In the fourth inning, Tripp Clark drove in a run with a double, then Marcano drove in two with a shot down the right field line. Dillon Thomas lifted an RBI single to cap off the inning. 

Sioux Falls battled back with two runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth, but four more RedHawks would come around to score to seal a five-run victory.

The RedHawks improved to 48-41, moving 4.5 games ahead of Sioux Falls for third place in the West Division. Kansas City still holds the division lead at 52-38, but Winnipeg sits just 2.5 games behind at 49-40. The RedHawks are one game back of the Goldeyes and will welcome them to Newman Outdoor Field next Tuesday.

Fargo-Moorhead continues their homestand as they host the East Division-leading Milwaukee Milkmen for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field is set for 7:02 p.m.
