Fargo Woodchippers named league’s best promotion

FARGO — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took home another offseason honor Tuesday, with the team’s “Fargo Woodchippers” alternate identity being named the American Association of Professional Baseball’s 2026 Promotion of the Year.

The RedHawks became the Woodchippers and donned special jerseys for five games in 2026 in a nod to the 1996 Coen Brothers cult classic, “Fargo,” and its famous woodchipper scene. Both the F-M organization and the film celebrated their 30th anniversaries in 2026.

The AAPB’s postseason awards are voted on by league directors, general managers and broadcasters. Fargo-Moorhead was also named the league’s Broadcast of the Year last week for the second consecutive season.

From the release of the Woodchippers branding, designed in collaboration with Worthen Design, in March, the new alternate identity received local, national and international media attention, as well as creating a buzz – or perhaps a grind – on social media.

The logo features a yellow anthropomorphized woodchipper with a stirruped cleat coming out of the infeed and a winter bomber hat-wearing baseball coming emerging from the chute, along with wood grain and snow elements on the wordmark.

Over the five Woodchippers games at Newman Outdoor Field, nearly 17,000 fans took in new promotions, met new Woodchippers mascots, saw new branded graphics and videos, purchased Midwest-themed merchandise and more.

A partnership with Explore Minnesota also helped the Woodchippers reach an even larger audience.

So far, Woodchippers merchandise orders have shipped to more than 40 states and Canada.
