RedHawks name George Tsamis as team’s fifth manager

FARGO — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are pleased to introduce George Tsamis as the fifth manager in team history ahead of the 2027 season.

Tsamis is one of the winningest independent league managers in history, bringing with him a 1442-1227 record and six championships over 28 seasons as a manager. He ranks third all-time in indy ball wins, behind only Butch Hobson and Greg Tagert.

Tsamis spent the last six seasons with the Kane County Cougars in the American Association, leading the team to back-to-back Miles Wolff Cup titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as winning the 2026 Baseball Champions League Americas in Mexico City.

Prior to joining the Cougars in 2021, he was the longtime manager for the St. Paul Saints, leading the team to two league titles and nearly 1,000 wins from 2003-2020. He also won back-to-back Northern League crowns in 2001 and 2002 while managing the New Jersey Jackals. Tsamis got his start as a manager with the Waterbury Spirit in 1999.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to be here with such a winning organization,” Tsamis said. “Every time we came to town over the years, we knew we were going to be playing against an excellent team. We hope to continue that identity and bring another championship to Fargo.”

As a player, Tsamis had a 10-year pro career as a left-handed pitcher, including 41 appearances for the Minnesota Twins in 1993. He also played in the 1979 Little League World Series, when his Campbell, Calif., team made it all the way to the championship game.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome George and his many years of championship success and experience to Fargo,” RedHawks President and CEO Brad Thom said. “His teams have always played hard, and he’s always worked to get the most out of them. We needed to make sure we did right by our fans in picking a manager to follow up Chris Coste, and we could not have found a better person than George to lead the RedHawks into our next chapter.”

Fargo-Moorhead is set to begin the 2027 American Association of Professional Baseball season on May 7 at home against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The AAPB is a 10-team MLB Partner League that plays a 102-game season from May through early September.
